Blastgard International Awarded Naval Supply Systems Command Contract
September 9, 2005 -- Tampa, FL and Juffair, Kingdom of Bahrain -- BlastGard International, Inc. (OTCBB: BLGA), the creator of blast mitigation products and services received a purchase order for its BlastGard MTR blast mitigated trash receptacles from the Naval Supply Systems Command, Fleet & Industrial Supply Center ("FISC"), in Sigonella, Italy for the Naval Regional Contracting Detachment (NRCD) in Bahrain. The contract calls for delivery of 50 blast-mitigated trash receptacles in October 2005. This order will be processed along with two other orders recently received from the Naval EOD Technology Division and the Department of Homeland Security. BlastGard Models MTR 91 and MTR 101 blast mitigated trash receptacles effectively deal with the lethal threats of an improvised explosive device (IED) - primary fragmentation, secondary fragmentation, blast shock and pressures and all of the thermal effects, including the fireball, after-burn and post-blast fires.
Jim Gordon, CEO and Chairman of BlastGard, stated, "We are proud of the opportunity to provide protection to our forces abroad. FISC provides fleet and base support for US Navy, Military Sealift and Coast Guard ships; US bases and facilities located in Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia; contingency operations; and continental US activities requiring supplies and services from Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia. NRCD and its detachments have provided significant contracting support for Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and many of the other recent operations undertaken in theater including Operations Sharp Edge (Liberia), Provide Comfort (Turkey), Provide Hope (Somalia), Provide Promise (Croatia) as well as the deployment of four contingency contracting officers in various countries to support Operation Iraqi Freedom."
"Our Blast Mitigated Trash Receptacle is just one application of our BlastWrap™ technology. The utilization of our product by FISC provides further validity and effectiveness of our BlastWrap™ product, as well as the existing need for its use in the marketplace. Our BlastWrap™ technology not only substantially reduces blast impulse and pressure (including reflected and quasi-static pressure), but substantially and rapidly quenches fireballs and suppresses post-blast fires. Lethal fragments and/or ballistic threats may be managed by adding armor. BlastWrap™ can be used to make a wide variety of products perform better, such as: building materials; magazines; ordnance containers; aircraft (single & twin-aisle) protection systems; explosives storage units; decorative facings; linings; IED and EOD threat management (permanent or portable); wall components; barriers (permanent or portable); and vehicle protection systems," added Gordon.
