The term Explosive Ordnance Disposal, or EOD, is defined as: The task of rendering safe and disposing of any explosive material. A military term which includes both dealing with improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance.
The armed forces and law enforcement agencies have special units devoted to EOD, all of whom use special devices and products to combat and thwart explosive devices.
BlastGard International has developed a product that does not require a special unit, or special training, and while cannot prevent an explosion from occuring, can mitigate the effects of an explosion substantially. We have developed the patent pending BlastWrap®. BlastWrap® is an explosive ordnance disposal product made from two flexible films arranged one over the other and joined by a plurality of seams filled with attenuating filler material (volcanic glass bead or other suitable two-phase materials), configured (designed for each application) with an extinguishing coating that offers a revolutionary blast protection system against all blast and fire/burn threats.
In the past EOD tools have been used to suppress fires, fireballs and explosions produced by flammable fuels, but none of which are as successful as BlastWrap®. Most of the applications involve chemical agents and work to extinguish. All of the agents are required to be dispensed in some fashion and at the right time and place. The use of BlastWrap® as an EOD tool can be much more effective because is always active. It never has to be dispensed, it is environmentally safe, and no chemical agents are involved. Some other benefits of using BlastWrap® are:
- BlastWrap® is highly adaptable and can be conformed to any surface, and can even be used for underwater applications.
- BlastWrap® products are inherent sound absorbers and thermal insulators, and are typically fire-tolerant.
- BlastWrap®'s proprietary technology is independent of scenario and environment. The basic product form can be used as a stand-alone material.
- BlastWrap® products can thus provide blast and fire protection in flooring, wall, and roof constructions, in packaging, in storage cabinets and other containment structures, and aboard all types of vehicles, ships, and aircraft.
