PROTECTING LIFE: GMR 500 - GRENADE MITIGATING RECEPTACLES

BLASTGARD GMR 500

AN ENTIRELY NEW BLAST-RESISTANT AND BLAST-MITIGATING GRENADE RECEPTACLE.

BlastGard’s “grenade mitigation receptacle” (GMR 500) allows for the immediate disposal of a defective or problem grenade. The grenade is tossed into the insertion cone (see photo below) and if the grenade explodes, the fragments from the grenade(s) remain inside the GMR 500. In addition, the fireball is snuffed out in 4/5 milliseconds and blast pressure is reduced by 85% or more. The interior design forces the grenade to roll to the sides and the back of the GMR 500. The interior and the bottom of the GMR 500 is lined with BlastWrap. The GMR 500 dramatically reduces all lethal threats posed by the detonation of a defective grenade; namely, fragments, mechanical effects (shock/blast pressure) and thermal effects (contact and radiation burn) from the fireball, afterburn and resultant post-blast fires.

Extensively tested by government agencies

  • Our patent-pending blast-mitigating technology, BlastWrap, and its BlastGard Mitigating Receptacles were designated Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technologies and placed on the “Approved Products List for Homeland Security.” We were issued the “Designation” and “Certification” for our technology by the Department of Homeland Security under the Support Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002 (the SAFETY ACT).

  • Extensively tested by the U.S. Army Developmental Test Command's Redstone Technical Test Center at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama and at Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center in Socorro, NM.

  • Tests witnessed by US Office of Naval Research (EOD Section) and Dept. of Homeland Security.

  • Test charges shot on midpoint, bottom center, and sidewall on the weld seam.

  • All sidewall and bottom tests were in-contact blasts, the most severe test of all because of shock-holing.

The GMR product can be reused over and over again. Simply remove the top, replace the BlastWrap and the HDPE center insertion cone. Replace the cover and bolt back into place.

New BlastGard GMR® Design

BlastGard’s Grenade Mitigating Receptacle patent-pending design is based on our MTR 91 mitigating trash receptacle. This new design manages the frags, substantially mitigates the blast pressure and blast thermal output and does it in a 48" maximum height unit. The three novel concepts are:

1.    The "diverter base" which will roll the M67 off center to avoid frags going straight up the center tube;

2.    The "diverter top" which will stop the frags from any untouched direct path out of the can by ricocheting off of the can wall or the funnel wall into the vent path;

3.    The side venting funnel which has a lip to drop glancing frags downward while still offering effective venting for blast pressure release.

New BlastGard GMR Design

Features

  • Triple Wall Technology, to withstand various charge weight capacity explosions (tested on Bottom Center, Sidewall Weld Seam, and Midpoint) without Horizontal Fragmentation.

  • Sturdy galvanized exterior walls are factory covered with standard color and texture laminates. Laminates can also be custom designed with special art, logos or official seals (100 Piece Minimum). Dings and dents will be minimized with laminate over metal and they also resist fading compared to painted surfaces.

  • Laminated exterior can be replaced by a local laminator if damaged or color schemes are revised.

  • Galvanized metals are finished with factory applied urethane paint in your choice of colors.

  • Easy on-site placement and leveling with single point pickup and stainless steel anchor, which resists over 4000 pounds of shear (horizontal) or tension (vertical) force.

  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.

  • Designed, built, and tested in the USA using only US purchased materials.

  • Weight: Starting at 1000 lbs.

  • Moving and installing these receptacles is simplified with inexpensive, readily available equipment.
